For sports enthusiasts (hiking)

Hiking enthusiasts will find Vianden a paradise for walkers.

Whether you prefer a leisurely city stroll or more challenging hikes over several hours, there’s something for everyone here. If you’re an active hiker looking for a longer adventure, we have two special recommendations for you:

Eislek-Pad

  • Duration : 3,5 heures
  • Length : 9,5 km
  • Starting point: : Parking lot at the cemetery (Rue du Vieux Marché)
  • Elevation : 390 m

The Eislek-Pad is a beautiful circular trail spanning just over 9 kilometers. The starting point is in Rue du Vieux Marché in Vianden, where there is ample parking near the cemetery to safely leave your car.

The hike begins towards Bivels, where you’ll cross the impressive dam. In the first few kilometers, you’ll already be able to take in sweeping views of the Our Valley and enjoy the breathtaking natural scenery. The constant change of landscapes is particularly appealing: sometimes the picturesque Our Valley lies at your feet, and at other times you can catch a distant glimpse of the historic Falkenstein Castle. As you descend, a stunning panoramic view of Vianden, its imposing castle, and the gently flowing river opens up before you.

For those who enjoy a more leisurely pace, the route offers a special highlight: at the upper station of the cable car, you have the option to descend back to the valley in comfort via the chairlift. Alternatively, you can take a short break here, savor the view over the Our Valley, the castle, and the town of Vianden, or enjoy a refreshing drink at a nearby café.

The return path leads you down into the valley, and soon you’ll find yourself back at the starting point in Rue du Vieux Marché. One added bonus of this trail: it can be hiked in both directions.

Nat’Our Route 5

  • Duration : 4,5 hours
  • Length : 12,5 km
  • Starting point : Parking lot at the cemetery (Rue du Vieux Marché)
  • Elevation : 470 m

The Nat’Our Route 5 is one of the most popular and scenic hiking trails in the region. This challenging circular route, which also starts at the parking lot by the cemetery in Rue du Vieux Marché in Vianden, offers unforgettable natural experiences and panoramic views. You can safely leave your vehicle here for the duration of the hike.

The hike begins with a winding uphill path that leads to the upper station of the chairlift. Once at the top, you’ll be rewarded with an impressive view over the town of Vianden and its iconic castle, before continuing toward Bivels.

On the way to Bivels, you will pass by the impressive tenth turbine of the S.E.O. hydroelectric power plant. The trail then follows the serene reservoir, leading you to the picturesque village of Bivels. There, you’ll cross the so-calledBlue Bridgeand continue your journey towards Falkenstein Castle.

After a longer ascent, you will reach the Falkenstein Castle, majestically nestled in the forest. From here, the route heads toward Bauler, staying at a height slightly above the water level of the reservoir as you gradually make your way back to Vianden.

This section of the trail is particularly striking as it crosses beautiful slate stones, which can become very slippery in the rain. Nonetheless, the constant views of the Our Valley will accompany you throughout, inviting you to pause and fully absorb the beauty of the surrounding nature.

After approximately 4.5 hours, you will arrive back in the town of Vianden. The final stretch takes you along the Our Valley promenade, leading back to the dam and your starting point at the cemetery.
