Halloween – an evening with Dracula | MusicDays Vianden

Programma

What better subject for a Halloween concert than Count Dracula, arguably the most famous vampire of all time? He is the brainchild of American novelist Bram Stoker, who never actually travelled to the region where the action takes place, Transylvania, known as ‘Siebenbürgen’ in German-speaking countries. Stoker’s novel Dracula, published in 1897, has been adapted several times for the cinema. Tod Browning’s 1931 silent film (with Bela Lugosi in the title role) received a new score by Philip Glass in 1999, composed for string quartet, double bass and piano. Kammerata Luxemburg plays a representative sample of this film music and contrasts it with passages from the novel, read in German by Nickel Bösenberg, and with traditional music from Transylvania, in which the zymbal plays an important role. This stringed instrument, struck with mallets, plays an important role in the folk music of Central and South-Eastern Europe.

At 6.30pm, Count Dracula will welcome his guests with snacks and drinks, and also invites the public to join in the event in formal, spooky and chic attire.
